Where the ‘Spark’ Originated
Over 20 years ago, the concept of SparkCards was born out of a simple but powerful need—to create space for meaningful conversations. It started around the family dinner table of founder and creator, Steve Visser, where getting a word in was a challenge. With four kids talking over each other, a game was introduced in the form of cards with a few simple rules: no interrupting, no correcting, and no one-upmanship. These cards slowly grew and evolved as the family got older, never ceasing to allow space for meaningful connection and powerful conversations.
From the dining table, the idea grew. As Steve moved through various ministries, homemade question cards became a staple for small groups and accountability meetings. By the early 2000s, these question sets evolved into a creative outlet, fuelling deeper discussions in home groups and men’s groups across multiple churches.
In 2010, SparkCards moved from New Zealand to Perth, Western Australia, and found a growing demand. The first professionally printed SparkCard deck, Getting to Know You, was designed for introverts and men—offering easy, approachable questions to spark conversations like, “What was your first car?” or “What movie inspires you?”

The Discipleship Series: The Way, The Truth, The Life
Over the years, the question sets evolved, and the Discipleship Series was born. This three-part collection is designed to guide participants through their Christian journey with engaging questions based on biblical principles.
The Way – 66 questions that help you share life experiences and personal stories.
The Truth – 66 questions focusing on the Gospel, with each card offering a Bible verse to start the discussion.
The Life – 66 questions encouraging introspection on how God is working in your life and where you see His fruit.
The Discipleship Series encourages open dialogue, fostering a space where stories are heard, and connections are built. It’s not about how many Bible verses you can recite but about truly listening to one another’s experiences and growing together in faith.
SparkCards offer depth and intentionality. Crafted to spark meaningful discussions, SparkCards are perfect for youth leaders, pastors and home group leaders seeking to build strong, connected Christian communities.

WHAT DENOMINATION DOES SPARK COME FROM?
Stephen Visser, the founder of Spark Cards, didn’t grow up in a Christian setting. Throughout his life however, he has experienced friendships with people in every Christian denomination.
Stephen’s reference for Spark Cards comes from what he read in the Bible and what has led him through the Holy Spirit.
Spark Cards is the perfect mix of Anglican, Pentecostal, Baptist, Brethren and Presbyterian and over 35 years from a Dutch Reformed extended family – all centred on God’s Holy Word.
His friendships and experiences with each denomination has culminated in a heightened sense of discernment with Spark Cards as the bridge between each faith.
WHAT IF I DISAGREE WITH THE BIBLE REFERENCES?
We hope that the Bible references used on our Spark Cards are seen as starting points for discussion. We ask that you to listen to other opinions without correcting and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide Spark Card users to the Truth.
